Today I am thrilled to announce that Katherine Maher, former CEO of the Wikimedia Foundation, has joined System’s Board of Directors.
During her time as CEO, Katherine led Wikipedia to new heights as an essential public resource and major tech platform. She significantly increased global reach and readership, reversed a longstanding issue by increasing editor diversity, and dramatically expanded Wikipedia’s presence in emerging communities. She fought to defend open access to knowledge worldwide while setting the Wikimedia movement on strong financial footing for the future.
Wikipedia is a key touchstone for what we’re building at System: a free, open, and living public resource that aims to explain how anything in the world is related to everything else. To have Katherine join our board, then, is invaluable. Her experience and perspective will guide us, and her passion for our vision will keep us pushing forward. We’re honored to be Katherine’s first startup board since leaving Wikipedia.
Our mission at System is to relate everything, to help the world see and solve anything, as a system. I could not be more excited and proud that Katherine has agreed to help us get there.
