Today I am thrilled to announce that Tom Glocer, former Thomson Reuters CEO, has joined System’s Board of Directors, and that Amy Brand, Director and Publisher of the MIT Press and former Assistant Provost at Harvard University, has joined us as an advisor.
Tom Glocer is the former Chairman and CEO of Thomson Reuters, the leading professional information provider. Tom is also a director of Merck & Co., Inc., Morgan Stanley, Publicis Groupe, K2 Intelligence, a trustee of the Cleveland Clinic, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and a member of numerous advisory boards including the Atlantic Council and the Social Sciences Research Council. He joins former Wikimedia Foundation CEO Katherine Maher and venture capitalists Om Malik and Asad Khaliq on System’s Board.
Dr. Amy Brand is a publisher, entrepreneur and executive widely recognized for expanding access to knowledge and promoting equity in science. She has served as Director and Publisher of the MIT Press, one of the largest university presses in the world, since 2015. Under Amy’s leadership, the Press has published more books by and about women in STEM than any other university press and launched an open collection initiative, Direct to Open, that provides global access to as much scholarly book content as possible. Amy also co-founded the Knowledge Futures Group and was a founding member of the ORCID Board, an initiative to create a central registry of unique identifiers for individual researchers, and has played a key role in establishing a wide range of metadata standards supporting the scientific record. Amy has held a number of positions in scholarly communications, higher education, and information access at MIT, Digital Science, Crossref, and Harvard University.
Our board members and advisors share System’s values of openness, rationality, diversity, humility, and impact. I could not be more excited and proud that Tom and Amy have agreed to share their unique insight and experience in service of our mission: to relate everything, to help the world see and solve anything, as a system.
